Poignant and confrontational
An eye-opening, significant piece of theatre

North West End ★★★★★

Put on the headphones and follow Mia on a journey through the streets as she takes you deeper and deeper into the secret world of women starving for beauty.

Combining promenade, site-specific, movement and silent disco technology, this immersive and intimate theatre piece will stay with you long after you leave Mia's world.

Originally created in 2013 in Liverpool as part of the first 'On the Verge' festival produced by Hope Street Ltd., "The Secret Life of Mia" was further developed in October 2016 thanks to support from Arts Council England. Performed in Liverpool, it was then successfully adapted to a new environment in St Helens.

In this piece, I wanted to find an effective and immersive way for the audience to see the world from the perspective of a woman affected by an eating disorder. Blending silent disco technology, promenade, site-specific, physical theatre and text written by myself, the show invited the audience to put on headphones and follow the performer in various locations, giving them access to the character’s inner world and most intimate thoughts thanks to an immersive soundtrack that was partly mixed live to ensure a seamless experience and allow scope to face the challenges that could arise along the route.
